The 2026 Kia EV4 will debut as one of the most awaited electric vehicles of the year. Kia is known for its forward-thinking electric lineup, and the EV4 aims to make a strong impact in the electric hatchback market. Built on the E-GMP ‘Lite’ platform, it offers an affordable yet practical approach to electric driving, with modern features and solid performance.
Unlike the performance-oriented Kia EV6, the EV4 targets buyers who want an efficient, everyday vehicle. The car’s front-wheel-drive configuration and lower charging power make it perfect for commuting. However, it doesn’t offer the sporty experience some might expect from its sleek design.
What Sets the Kia EV4 Apart?
The Kia EV4 stands out by offering simplicity and practicality at a more accessible price point. It uses a 400V architecture instead of the 800V system in the EV6. This reduces costs but also results in slower charging speeds, peaking at 135 kW, compared to the EV6’s 240 kW.
The EV4 has a range of about 391 miles (629 km) with the 81.4 kWh battery. The smaller 58.3 kWh battery offers 273 miles (440 km). These figures are good for daily use and commuting, but they reflect a more practical and efficient range, not a performance-oriented one.
Kia EV4 Driving Experience
Driving the Kia EV4 highlights its focus on comfort and efficiency, rather than high performance. Over bumpy roads in Bucharest, the EV4 offered a smooth, comfortable ride. The 19-inch wheels helped it glide over potholes and rough surfaces, making it an ideal option for city driving. The 17-inch wheel version will offer an even smoother ride.
While it excels at comfort, the EV4 is not as fun to drive as the EV6. With 201 hp and 208 lb-ft of torque, the motor provides adequate power, but it feels less sporty. The front-wheel-drive layout limits its fun factor. Hard acceleration often leads to the front tires scrambling for grip.
EV4 Charging and Battery Life
The Kia EV4 has fast-charging capabilities, though it doesn’t match the EV6’s speeds. It can charge from 10% to 80% in about 31 minutes on a 135 kW charger. This makes it suitable for long road trips, although it takes slightly longer to charge than its siblings.
With a full charge, the EV4 can travel up to 314 miles (505 km). If you opt for the smaller 58.3 kWh battery, the range is around 273 miles (440 km). Both options offer good real-world range, especially for daily commutes.

The Kia EV4’s Place in the Market
The Kia EV4 is a solid option for buyers seeking comfort, efficiency, and practicality. However, at €52,200 ($58,000), it feels a bit expensive for the interior quality. Parts of the cabin could be better, especially considering the competition. The BYD Seal, for example, feels more premium at a similar price point.
While the EV4 is designed to be practical, it lacks the excitement of the EV6. It’s a good choice for those who prioritize comfort and range over performance, but it may not appeal to those looking for a more thrilling driving experience.
