Uber Driver Requirements in Uganda

To become an Uber driver-partner in Uganda, you need to meet both driver and vehicle requirements. While these can vary by city, Uber has established a set of minimum criteria that every driver must fulfill before they can start driving.

Minimum Driver-Partner Requirements

To get started as an Uber driver in Uganda, you must meet the following essential requirements:

  1. A valid driving license: You must hold a valid Ugandan driving license.
  2. Certificate of Good Conduct: Uber requires a Certificate of Good Conduct from Interpol to ensure your background is clear.
  3. Age requirement: You must be at least 21 years old.
  4. Driver profile photo: You’ll need to upload a clear photo of yourself to complete your profile.
  5. Complete a virtual information session: You must participate in a short, virtual session to learn about Uber’s platform and safety protocols.

These are the basic qualifications, ensuring that Uber drivers meet safety and regulatory standards.

Minimum Vehicle Requirements

When it comes to vehicles, Uber requires that your car meet specific standards to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for passengers. Here are the main requirements:

  • A working radio: Your car should have a working radio.
  • Air conditioning: Your vehicle must be equipped with air conditioning.
  • Four doors: Uber requires that your vehicle has four doors for easier access.

These requirements guarantee a comfortable ride for passengers, contributing to an enjoyable experience.

Accepted Vehicles

Uber only accepts vehicles that meet these standards. Your car must be in excellent condition both mechanically and physically. This ensures a smooth, safe ride for both you and your passengers.

Required Vehicle Documentation

Before you can hit the road, you’ll need to upload certain documents for verification:

  1. KCCA Permit: If you plan to drive in Kampala, you’ll need a Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) permit.
  2. Vehicle third-party insurance: Ensure that your vehicle has valid third-party insurance.
  3. TLB Sticker: Obtain a Transport Licensing Board (TLB) sticker to legally operate as a commercial driver.

Once you’ve completed these steps and uploaded the required documents, you’ll be ready to begin your journey with Uber.
